Katarina Witt started skating at age five. As her natural talent began to show and she was accepted into an Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on kids with a sporty aptitude. It was here that she was introduced to her coach Jutta Muller. Witt made her breakthrough year in 1982, when she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since then, Witt's grace and beauty have captured all the attention of people. Olympic triumph Katarina (now Witt) took home the women's Figure Skating Gold Medal at Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. In a tighter competition afterward, she took home the gold medal. Witt actually fell short of the free skating competition, but earned the gold medal based upon her results in the compulsory figures and the short-form program. Witt became the first woman to be crowned champion in the men's and women's figure-skating competitions since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt had a great deal of success in her acting career however she returned to her sports to participate in her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win an award. The year 1995 was the year that Witt received her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
